Modem Media confirms acquisition talks with Bozell

Published on .

Interactive agency Modem Media, Westport, Conn., always a popular acquisition target, said it recently ended talks with Bozell, Jacobs, Kenyon & Eckhardt about merging with Bozell's Poppe Tyson unit.

"We did have discussions with Poppe," said G.M. O'Connell, a partner in Modem. "They did not turn into anything substantial." It's believed client conflicts prevented the talks from going any further.

Modem earlier was said to be in acquisition talks with Omnicom Group and more recently has been linked with True North Technologies. Mr. O'Connell declined to comment on those companies specifically but said, "We are exploring opportunities. We're not commenting on any formal discussions we may or may not be having."

Modem has made a name for itself as one of the few true interactive agencies, with expertise in creative, account management and media. The agency's clients include AT&T and MasterCard International.
