(April 2, 2001) -- Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. will drop the Dean Witter name officially Tuesday and retain only Morgan Stanley as its brand. The name change -- announced earlier this year -- will become official with newspaper ads in in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and USA Today, breaking tomorrow.

The ads are part of the "Well Connected" campaign created by Leo Burnett USA, Chicago. The former Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Discover & Co. -- formed by the merger of Morgan Stanley Inc. and Dean Witter Discover & Co in 1995 -- dropped the Discover name a year ago, although it kept the brand for its Discover Card credit card and Discover Financial Services unit. Last year, it also rebranded its online broker, Discover Brokerage as MSDW Online.
