Allstate Insurance Co. announced its first national sports marketing sponsorship, backing the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. The women's world championship of soccer, established in 1991, will be held for the first time in the U.S. this year. It kicks off June 19 and runs through July in eight cities. Major sponsors include Coca-Cola Co. and Fujifilm.
Starbucks Coffee Co. on June 5 will stage a 3-hour party at its 2,200 stores nationwide as its annual kickoff to summer. The party, bigger in scope this year, offers everything from live entertainment to free samples. A two-for-one beverage offer is available with a coupon distributed at stores.
