Motorola marketing chief joins BT

SINGAPORE - Rick Timmons, Asia-Pacific regional marketing director for Motorola personal communications, has joined British Telecom in Japan as VP-marketing, wireless. His successor is Benjamin Ho, formerly director of consumer communication and brand management for the consumer solutions group within Motorola A-P. Mr. Ho will relocate from Hong Kong to his native Singapore to take up the new position.

Mr. Timmons will be working as senior managing director of marketing and sales on the board of directors for Japanese cellular operator J Phone Communications, of which BT is a major stockholder. Mr. Timmons has extensive experience in Asia, including a prolonged stint in Japan; his new role is based in Tokyo. It's understood Mr. Timmons' emphasis will be WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) technology.

Prior to joining Motorola Asia in April 1997, Mr. Ho worked for 12 years in the ad industry, including senior positions at BBDO Worldwide (Greater China) and Dentsu, Young & Rubicam Singapore.
