'MPA jinx' hits Kenney, leaving his RDA post

Published on .

Thomas Kenney, the president of global marketing and brand development at Reader's Digest Association and the current chairman of the Magazine Publishers of America, is resigning from his RDA post, effective Oct. 31, the company confirmed. The development is likely to revive talks of the "MPA jinx"; Mr. Kenney is the fourth MPA chairman since the mid '80s to leave his day job while heading the magazine trade group. Mr. Kenney said that RDA Chairman-CEO "Jim Schadt wanted me to spend all of my time doing deals. I enjoy that, but not as a total job."
