Viacom's MTV Networks
is aggressively seeking content deals with online services including CompuServe in which those services pay MTV to make its free Web content accessible to online subscribers, according to Nov. 29 Wall Street Journal reports. The concept is controversial, as online services have until now taken for granted the Web's free riches as part of their own Web-based content offerings. Under MTV's pitch, online companies would pay Viacom or risk customers' losing free access to MTV content.
