Murdoch son named chairman of News Corp. in Australia

SYDNEY - Lachlan Murdoch's swift rise within his father Rupert Murdoch's News Corp continues with his appointment as chairman of the group's Australian arm, News Ltd., from July 1 when long-time News employee Ken Cowley retires as executive chairman.

Murdoch, 25, retains the role of managing director, giving him control of all the local operations of News Corp which includes national, metropolitan and regional newspapers, a magazine group, 50% of both Foxtel pay-TV and Ansett Airlines, and 15% of the Seven Network national television. He is also a director of News Corp and its Asian satellite service based in Hong Kong, Star Television.
