N.Y. tax holiday hikes sales

January sales results for Federated Department Stores reflect the impact of New York state's one-week elimination of sales taxes on clothing. Federated Chairman Allen Questrom credited half of Federated's 9.4% national January increase in comparable store sales to strong sales at New York stores affected by the week-long tax holiday.
