NAA DEBUTS REALFIND SERVICE BROADENS REACH OF CLASSIFIED ADS

The Newspaper Association of America has launched a for-profit subsidiary called RealFind USA, to help members market real-estate classifieds and related local advertising to people who move long-distance each year.

RealFind is offered free to consumers and provides papers that run 40 inches of advertising for the service with fulfillment efforts for consumers who call to request overnight packets of current listing ads for their moving destination.

At press time, NAA had signed 36 newspapers to work with

RealFind, including The Atlanta Journal & Constitution, The Dallas Morning News, the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News, Las Vegas Review-Journal & Sun, the Omaha World-Herald, the Rocky Mountain News and The Washington Times.

50 PAPERS EXPECTED

Kevin McCourt, who joined NAA as director of operations for RealFind last month, said he expects the service to have 50 participating papers at its Jan. 19 launch. Mr. McCourt was formerly director of sales and marketing at North American Classifacts, Denver.

The move to launch RealFind, the second for-profit subsidiary launched by the NAA after the Newspaper National Network-designed to lure more national advertisers in newspapers with circulation outside the top 25 markets-came at the request of classifieds directors, Mr. McCourt said.

Participating advertisers to date include Century 21 Real Estate Corp., Days Inns of America, Howard Johnson, Ramada and Travelodge. Century 21 preferred vendors, such as AT&T Corp. and Alamo Rent-A-Car, are also expected to join the program.

SMALLER ADVERTISERS

Local advertisers, as well as national advertisers working with fewer than five newspapers, must contact newspaper publishers directly about working with

RealFind packets. RealFind charges national advertisers in five or more markets a minimum of $10,000 for a 10,000-insert buy, according to Mr. McCourt.
