National auto campaigns launched

Two carmakers broke 2001-model campaigns this week with new national 30-second TV spots. The Montero sport utility spot from Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America shows a cheerleader asking her brother why he's picking her up. She realizes why when her teammates are all in the SUV. Deutsch, Marina del Rey, Calif., actually created the spot for regional dealer groups, but the client liked it better than the proposed national.

Also, Mazda North American Operations launched its '01 Protege under its "Zoom-Zoom" theme. Another new TV spot from Doner, Southfield, Mich., and Newport Beach, Calif., arrives for the Miata on Feb. 5.
