National Geographic Channel Europe goes live in Israel

Published on .

ISLEWORTH, U.K.--National Geographic Channel Europe has launched on all three cable systems in Israel. The move follows a bidding contest in September and three months of working to gain government approval.

The NGCE will broadcast on cable systems Tevel, Golden Channels and Matav, giving it access to more than 1.1 million Israeli households.

"It is gratifying to have finally obtained Israeli government approval to launch all cable networks in English. It should satisfy a considerable amount of consumer anticipation in Israel, as National Geographic is well known and the government's deliberations on approval of the Channel were done very publicly," says Jerry Glover, managing director of NGCE.

Negotiations are continuing with the Ministry of Communications to win approval for the addition of Hebrew subtitles on the channel.
