National newspaper network to launch ad sales effort

New Century Network, an alliance formed by nine national media companies, this December will launch its national ad sales effort. The service allows advertisers to buy a national network of local newspaper sites while providing geographical and editorial targeting options. Tom Bates, former managing director of Europe and Asia for USA Today's international edition, has been named a senior VP. Cox Interactive Sales will handle NCN's sales effort. NCN's corporate founders represent about 55 percent of all U.S. newspapers and include: Advance Publications; Cox Newspapers; Gannett Co.; The Hearst Corp.; Knight-Ridder; The New York Times Co.; Times-Mirror; Tribune Co.; and The Washington Post Co.
