NBA and Broadway in marketing deal

Published on .

The National Basketball Association, New York, is partnering with eight Broadway shows and the League of American Theatres & Producers to bring a Broadway theme to its 1998 NBA All-Star Game festivities in New York in February. Cast members will perform songs from current Broadway shows in a televised halftime feature during the Feb. 8 game and appear in a new "I love this game" ad campaign created by NBA Entertainment that will break in December. Matinee times on the day of the All-Star Game will be moved to 1 p.m. to avoid conflict with the start of the game at 6 p.m. The NBA will buy 5,000 tickets to those shows for its business partners and guests and donate proceeds to New York Cares, a non-profit organization.
