NBA names apparel licensees

Published on .

As expected, the National Basketball Association announced today that Champion Products, Nike and Starter Corp. will come aboard next season as the exclusive manufacturers of authentic on-court and courtside apparel. They also get licenses to market these products at retail. Starter gets nine teams and Champion and Nike each get 10, with Nike getting top properties like the Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers. Champion, which currently has the exclusive rights to authentic apparel, will retain its exclusive license for replica jerseys and shorts. The deals commit the companies to extensive advertising and promotional support.
