NBC said it will create Intercast content for three fall programs: one game a week of NFL football; "Dateline NBC"; and "Homicide." Intercast, available only to those with special computers equipped with the Intel technology, transmits Web pages and other data along with the TV signal. NBC will offer game statistics and digital playbooks during the football game; graphic illustrations, source lists and background information for the "Dateline" telecasts; and character profiles and personnel files to go along with "Homicide..
Intercast-equipped computers have been slow to roll out. Originally intended to be available for the Summer Olympics, the computers only started rolling into a few markets during the Games. NBC and Intel say most of the products will be available by Christmas.
Whether Intercast will succeed as an information source remains to be seen. It's unclear how many computer users will want to watch TV on a computer screen and interact with the shows at the same time.
