NBC plans Japanese launch with Mitsui

TOKYO -- Mitsui Trading Co., a major Japanese trading company, is to be the media sales agent in Japan for U.S. TV network NBC, which plans to launch in the country next year.

Mitsui will deal with Japanese firms that want to advertise on NBC TV programs, which are distributed in 75 countries and regions worldwide by the NBC group. NBC plans to start broadcasting its news stations CNBC and MSNBC (its joint venture with Microsoft Corp) in Japan, as well as an entertainment channel. Mitsui plans ultimately to expand its media sales service.
