In an indication that Disney's promotional influence has arrived at ABC
, the network has hired Alan Cohen as exec VP-marketing. Mr. Cohen comes from NBC, where he was exec VP-corporate marketing and the architect of a number of high-profile, multimillion-dollar promotions with advertisers, such as having pictures of NBC cast members appear on boxes of Kellogg cereals. Up to now ABC has eschewed these kinds of promotions. ABC research and the network's affiliated marketing team will report to Mr. Cohen. As previously reported, Peter Chrisanthopoulos, ABC's exec VP of research, marketing and promotion, is expected to announce soon that he will move to Ogilvy & Mather.
Separately, John Pike, CBS' late-night programming chief, resigned on Thursday. He had been accused of making racist remarks about blacks' TV-watching habits in an article in Details magazine. In a statement, CBS said Mr. Pike maintains he did not make the remarks attributed to him.
