NBC takes sales in-house

Published on .

In a blow to TV station reps, NBC has decided to move national spot sales for its nine owned-and-operated TV stations back in-house. Billings are estimated at more than $400 million. Currently HRP, Petry and Katz represent NBC's stations; the in-house unit will begin after those contracts expire in November.

Ray Heacox has been named exec VP-sales for the stations, moving up from VP-sales at KNBC in Los Angeles. Monte Newman, who had been the liaison between the station group and the reps, will be senior VP-sales and marketing. Mr. Newman, who has spearheaded the stations' successful Olympics sales efforts, will continue to handle Olympics sales.
