Nestle exec joins Starbucks

Published on .

Starbucks Coffee Co., Seattle, building its supermarket presence, has hired Nestle USA's Jim Alling as senior VP-grocery, a new post. Mr. Alling was most recently VP-business unit manager for chocolate drinks and dairy products at Nestle and was formerly VP-general manager of the company's ground coffee division. At Starbucks, he will oversee all aspects of the company's business in grocery stores. First on his agenda will be evaluating results from an ongoing test launched last summer of selling bean coffee in 465 Chicago-area supermarkets, a spokesman said.
