Nets sign women's basketball deal

USA Basketball has signed TV rights deals with ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 to carry games in which the national women's team will compete prior to the 1996 Summer Olympics. In addition, Champion Products has signed on as the first sponsor of the women's team and will buy ad time on the broadcasts. The deals were negotiated by the National Basketball Association, which has control of the marketing for the women's team.

Kmart Corp. posted a first-quarter loss of $28 million, compared with an $18 million profit in the same quarter in 1994. The troubled retailer said it had its largest quarterly sales gain in several years, but blamed the loss on continuing pressure on gross margins and implementation of a new inventory accounting system. First-quarter sales of $7.8 billion represented an 8.1% increase from the same period a year earlier.
