Netscape, Microsoft add more "push" content

Netscape Communications Corp., on the eve of introducing its new Netcaster push application, said Marimba's 100-plus channel partners will be featured on a Netcaster feature called Netscape Channel Finder. Additionally, Charles Schwab & Co., Excite, Knight-Ridder, Mapquest, Planet Out and Wire Networks are among the newest content providers to support Netcaster. Netscape will release the commercial version next week.

Microsoft Corp. issued a simultaneous announcement saying it had snagged Variety, The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition, Individual Inc.'s Newspage, Dun & Bradstreet Online and others to create Active Channels for Internet Explorer. Active Channels enable premium content to be pushed to a user's desktop.
