Netscape pushes Netcaster

Published on .

Netscape Communications Corp. issued its first preview release of Netcaster, its "push" product, on Monday. Netcaster will be available for public download starting next week; it offers the ability to subscribe to various "channels" of Web content and download information at pre-selected times. ABC News, CNET, CNNfn and Wired are among those that will create channels for Netcaster.

Not to be outdone, Microsoft Corp. this week is expected to announce its own list of partners contributing content for its channel definition format for creating push channels.
