Networks to telecast World Cup

Published on .

ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC Sports have signed on to televise the 1998 World Cup Soccer Tournament from France. The networks said commercials will not run during the two 45-minute halves of the 64 games; they will be confined to pregame, halftime and postgame segments. However, sponsors' logos will be superimposed on the screen during the games. ABC said it will televise a minimum of 14 games; the cable nets will cover the others.
