America West reaches for Hispanic consumers

America West Airlines is expanding its advertising efforts in the Hispanic market. Ads break this month promoting fare sales in Hispanic markets such as hub-city Phoenix, Mexico City and Florida and Southern California cities. The airline uses newspapers, magazines, radio and spot buys on Telemundo and Univision. It recently named Arvizu Advertising & Promotions, Phoenix, as its Hispanic agency. Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, handles the general marketing campaign, which carries the theme, "Every flight counts."

Univision expands its bicultural block

Univision Communications' Hispanic cable network Galavision is launching four new original prime-time programs this month. The shows were developed to fit into a bicultural block to appeal to viewers who speak Spanish and English. The Wednesday night shows include "Al Desnudo," a reality-based investigative program; "GalaScene," an urban lifestyle show; and "VideoMix," a music video show. "Con Cierta Intimidad," which will showcase Latin recording stars, airs on Thursdays.
