News Corp. to buy Heritage Media

Published on .

Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., dramatically expanding its stake in in-store couponing, said it intends to buy Heritage Media for $754 million. Heritage includes at-shelf coupon leader ActMedia and DIMAC Marketing Corp. News Corp.'s News America FSI unit in January challenged ActMedia by rolling out at-shelf coupon dispensers in more than 2,000 stores, prompting ActMedia to accuse News Corp. of using "marketplace clout to gain leverage" with supermarket operators. The proposed deal needs shareholder approvals and faces federal antitrust review.
