News corp., Oracle develop e-commerce in China

a strategic partnership agreement with PDN Xinren Information and Technology Co., a joint venture between Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. and People's Daily in China, to develop e-commerce business in China.

Oracle will provide an Internet-based technology platform and e-commerce support services for ChinaByte, an Internet content provider launched by PDN that specializes in information technology stories. In turn, ChinaByte will provide online promotion for Oracle.

Gareth Chang, executive director of News Corp. and executive chairman of Star TV, says: "We are confident that the partnership will present another impetus to accelerate the development of e-commerce in China and help to open up more avenues for the growth of the Internet in thecountry."

ChinaByte recently staged the debut of online channel "Hot Market", which consists of categories such as online Do-It-Yourself, tech trends,online quotation, hardware reviews and market trends. The channel takesadvantage of the Internet to build up interactive communication betweenbusinesses and customers, with the aim to create an integrated online PC sales system.

Alex Wong, general manager of PDN, adds, "ChinaByte is now coordinating with other renowned Chinese business Web sites and product suppliers, working its way to become an established e-commerce Web site for the Chinese community around the globe."
