EBay said it had laid off 32 employees, or about 15% of the staff at its Butterfield division, and restruc1 tured the operation. EBay acquired the venerable fine arts auction house in 1999. The Butterfield unit had about 220 employees.

Newspapers declaring "Bush wins" became hot items Nov. 8 on Web auction sites including eBay, where one early edition of the 25 cent New York Post sold for $30.01. Another seller offering a Miami Herald with a similar headline was asking $5.99 for a copy. However, if election results eventually reveal GOP Texas Gov. George W. Bush as the winner, the newspapers may be worth no more than the original cover price.

BigFatWow, a company that provides free, high-speed Internet access in public areas signed a deal with AdForce to sell ads on its Wow Centers, the ISP centers located in shopping centers across the U.S.

JP Kids, an independent kids' media company, has purchased react.com, the teen site that shut down earlier this year. JP Kids has Internet, publishing and TV properties. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
