New York Magazine is searching for a new agency of record, said Publisher Alan Katz. The magazine last year parted with DeVito Verdi, New York.

Gary Topolewski, 42, joined McCann-Erickson/A&L, San Francisco, as exec VP-chief creative officer, from FCB Worldwide, Southfield, Mich., where he held the same title on Daimler-Chrysler's Jeep, Chrysler and Plymouth. He succeeds Steve Schweitzer, who resigned unexpectedly last month. Bill Morden, 48, formerly group VP-creative director at FCB, succeeds Mr. Topolewski, who will now work on Microsoft.

Lizabeth A. Shultis to VP-marketing programs and worldwide advertising, Northwest Airlines, St. Paul, Minn., from VP-reservations sales and services. She succeeds Rick Dow, who left.

Jill Manaton, 35, to general manager-marketing communications, British Airways, London, from senior manager-marketing and alliance communications. She succeeds Derek Dear, who's retiring after more than 30 years with the airline.
