The Newspaper Association of America recognized online newspapers with its Digital Edge Awards on June 19. The winners for best online newspapers site were Kansas City Star for large market; The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle for medium market and a group of Florida sites called TCPalm for small market. The Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., won for best interactive feature and the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong won an outstanding achievement award for best news presentation.
U.S. News & World Report launched a new financial section of U.S. News Online, the Money channel in the News You Can Use section of the site. Some of the new features include a mutual funds database and a retirement calculator.
Web community Tripod locked down an exclusive e-commerce agreement with barnesandnoble.com. barnesandnoble.com will be the exclusive bookseller on Tripod.com, and will be able to offer its Affiliate Network to Tripod's members. barnesandnoble.com also has extended its previous agreement with Tripod's parent Lycos to be the top bookseller on the search engine site.
