Newsday sticks with Prodigy

Published on .

Newsday Direct, the online venture of Times Mirror's Newsday newspaper, becomes a basic service on Prodigy on Nov. 1, ending its distribution as a subscription service. The move comes after several weeks of speculation over whether Newsday would remain with Prodigy after its sister paper Los Angeles Times decided to end its TimesLink extra-fee service on the onliner. The Times said it will bring its content to the Web. Under the original subscription model, Newsday cost $4.95 per month in addition to a Prodigy membership, or $6.95 per month as a stand-alone. The service had signed on 9,000 subscribers.
