The National Football League has inked a multiyear sponsorship agreement with RCA/Thomson Consumer Electronics. Sony Corp. of America, previously the NFL's consumer electronics sponsor, signed a deal with the National Basketball Association instead. Sprint, a $30 million-a-year NFL sponsor, has assembled a multifaceted program linked to ABC's "NFL Monday Night Football." Beginning Sept. 1 is a season-long promotion called "Monday Nights Free and Clear," offering free local service every Monday night, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. throughout the NFL season to new Sprint Sense long-distance customers and new Sprint PCS digital wireless customers. Support includes a mall tour and a roaming Monday Night Madness Mobile. Also, NFL and Walt Disney Co. will work together on a variety of unspecified entertainment projects.
