NFO expands in asia/pacific with New Zealand research buy

GREENWICH, Connecticut -- NFO Worldwide, the U.S.-based market information company, is buying CM Research Group Ltd of New Zealand for around $8.8 million, including the assumption of debt.

CM, which has offices in five cities across New Zealand and Australia, will become part of The MBL Group plc, NFO's European, Middle Eastern and Asia/Pacific operation.

William E. Lipner, NFO's chairman and chief operating officer, says CM's addition makes the MBL Group "one of only three market research firms with full coverage of this rapidly expanding part of the world."

Through its pre-recruited consumer panel and other specialized databases, NFO offers access to more than 525,000 U.S. households - more than 1.3 million people - and, through a joint venture, to more than 100,000 European households. The company claims a client-list more than 2,000-strong from sectors such as packaged goods and food, healthcare, financial services, hi-tech/telecommun- ications, travel and leisure.
