NHL OKs Olympics for players

Taking a page out of the National Basketball Association marketing handbook, the National Hockey League on Monday announced an agreement with several global and international organizations governing the sport of hockey to permit its professional players to play in Winter Olympic competition. In order to do this, the NHL will have to take an 18-day break in its season during Winter Olympic years. Also, the NHL and the NHL Players Association have formed a joint venture that will handle marketing for the World Cup of Hockey, which will begin next year and be held in Canada and the U.S.
