Nicorette hopes to go OTC

Published on .

Pharmacia Group, the Swedish pharmaceutical at the center of a merger plan with America's Upjohn, is planning a major campaign for its Nicorette anti-smoking chewing gum in the U.S. A final plan will be announced if the Non-prescription Drugs Advisory Committee allows over-the-counter sales of Nicorette, according to officials. The NDAC is expected to rule on the matter on Sept. 28. If the NDAC recommends OTC sale of Nicorette, the issue would still have to go to the Food & Drug Administration for a final ruling.
