Nielsen ends Europe practices

Published on .

ACNielsen Corp., Stamford, Conn., has resolved an investigation by the European Commission into alleged violations of European competition law. The company said it signed an "Undertaking" that formalizes its commitment to abandon certain contract practices. The Commission issued a Statement of Objections last May, acting on complaints from Information Resources Inc. that Nielsen was attempting to prevent IRI from establishing a competitive position in Europe. The commission press release said the Undertaking "eliminates artificial barriers to entry to the European markets for retail tracking services." Following the EC action, the U.S. Justice Departmenmt said it was ending its investigation into Nielsen's contract practices.
