Nike merges accounts at Wieden

Published on .

Nike has consolidated its U.S. account, with estimated billings of $350 million, at Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore. Wieden had been Nike's sole agency for years and developed the popular and hugely successful "Just do it" tagline. But the agency has shared the account for the last two years with Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, amid constant speculation about the balance of power and billings. Now Nike has decided to return to one agency, and has handed its business back to Wieden. Nike has been a cornerstone client for Wieden since 1982, and the full return of the account is an important victory for the shop. The U.S. consolidation comes directly on the heels of the appointment of Ellen Turner as chief marketing officer for Nike.
