Published on .

(Aug. 9, 2001) ISTANBUL -- Sports giant Nike is poised to make an agency appointment by the end of August although it declined to name shops shortlisted.

The move comes as Nike announced that it is establishing an Istanbul-based Nike Turkey with plans to take over the sales, marketing and distribution rights from its Turkish distributor Vepa, ending a 13-year relationship.

"Bringing in new systems as a breeze of fresh wind to the Turkish market, Nike aims to contribute to the efforts directed to building up Turkish sports retailing sector and will offer great advantages to the consumers," said Zafer Parlar, general manager of Nike Turkey.

He adds that Nike Turkey is on the lookout for partnership opportunities with local groups that want to enter into its retail business. -- Gurul Ogud
