Nintendo of America, Redmond, Wash., and Hasbro, Pawtucket, R.I., have signed an agreement making Hasbro the master toy licensee for Pokemon, a game franchise being launched this fall in the U.S. for Nintendo's hand-held Gameboy platform. Hasbro will make toys based on the more than 100 characters in Pokemon. Nintendo hopes retailers will create Pokemon boutiques of videogames, toys and other licensed products. The cartoon series and the game will be launched together in the U.S. in September, supported by a $12 million marketing push.
