Nintendo Pocket Monster to hit U.S.

Published on .

Nintendo's Pocket Monster game for the Gameboy computer, a big seller in Japan since its 1996 launch there, will be introduced to the U.S. market in 1998, Nintendo executives said in Japan. Game players capture 151 hidden monsters, then nurture and train them to develop various fighting skills. They can also trade monsters with other users via a Gameboy connection cable. Pocket Monster has also led to a multimillion- dollar spinoff market in Japan that includes trading cards, action figures and food products.
