Ex-Nissan chief joins Huizenga

Published on .

Robert Thomas, who stepped down under pressure Oct. 3 as president-CEO of Nissan Motor Corp. USA, Carson, Calif., joined Republic Industries, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., as exec VP-strategic marketing. Republic, run by H. Wayne Huizenga, through acquisitions has emerged as the nation's largest new-car dealer group. Mr. Thomas has been outspoken in his belief that car marketing must change, making him a logical ally for Mr. Huizenga. While at Nissan, Mr. Thomas championed that car marketer's controversial brand campaign from TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, Calif.
