Nissan Philippines eyes international markets

MANILA -- Nissan Philippines Inc is eyeing international markets to boost declining revenues.

According to Nissan President/CEO Hitoshi Imamura, the company plans to ship out light pickup trucks assembled in the Philippines to other areas of Asia and the Middle East.

Nissan will start negotiations on the sale of AD Resort pickup models to the Middle East later this month. The company has already exported 50 units of AD Resort to Syria last year.

The company has been hampered by dwindling sales in the Philippines. It has so far sold only 13 AD Resorts in the first four months of the year, and 143 units last year, way below target.

AD Resort is being manufactured by Nissan assemblers in Malaysia and Thailand under a plan that encourages the use of locallymanufactured goods in making vehicles.

Nissan ranks sixth overall among vehicle assemblers with a 12.4% market share. It sold 1,756 units in the first four months this year, down 52% year-on-year.
