(Aug. 6, 2001) -- Nissan North America launches the 2002 Nissan Xterra sport utility tonight on national cable and network TV in an estimated $40 million push that will continue into 2002.

The first of three 30-second spots filmed in Australia from Omnicom Group's TBWA/Chiat/Day, Playa del Rey, Calif., shows the facelifted SUV driving up a sand dune; its driver sandboards down. Nissan's Peter Goodwin, ad director, said the SUV is a key vehicle to bring newcomers to the brand.
