Nokia strikes broad Emmy sponsor pact

Wireless phone marketer Nokia said it signed a "strategic marketing partnership'' with News Corp. One, News Corp.'s cross-media sales unit, and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Under the deal, valued at as much as $10 million, Nokia receives advertising exclusivities within the Sept. 12 Emmy awards telecast on News Corp.'s Fox TV and will sponsor events surrounding the awards ceremony and a PSA initiative to be detailed by ATAS Chairman Meryle Marshall during the Emmy telecast. Also involved are advertising deals with Fox and sibling News Corp. companies such as TV Guide. In addition, Nokia will tie in with ads and product placement over the next year on Fox TV shows, including "The X-Files'' and "Ally McBeal.'' Nokia's agency, Richards Group, Dallas, will create the ads.
