O&M merges Australian and New Zealand operations

SYDNEY -- Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide merged its Australia and New Zealand operations with Singleton Group Ltd., Sydney. The merger creates a new holding company called Singleton, Ogilvy & Mather Holdings Pty Ltd. It will be two-thirds owned by Singleton shareholders with Ogilvy owning the remaining third, subject to regulatory approval.

In Sydney and Melbourne, Ogilvy's general advertising operations will merge with John Singleton Advertising to form Singleton, Ogilvy & Mather Advertising; Ogilvy & Mather's operations in New Zealand, where Singleton doesn't currently have a presence, will be renamed Singleton, Ogilvy & Mather, New Zealand; and Singleton Direct will merge into OgilvyOne. Subsidiaries Ethnic Communications, Genesis Advertising and Octopus Communications will all continue under the same names.

Geoff Wild, chairman-CEO of Ogilvy New Zealand, becomes chairman of Singleton, Ogilvy and Russell Tate, managing director of Singleton Group, becomes CEO of the new company.
