(July 18, 2001) -- WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather, Chicago, and its OgilvyOne direct marketing unit cut as many as 40 jobs following a restructuring of the Ameritrade account, according to executives close to the agency.

An agency spokeswoman confirmed reports that some pieces of the account moved to the New York office but said the bulk of the account remains in Chicago.

"Given the nature of the economy, and its impact on client spending, Ogilvy & Mather Chicago has made staff cutbacks," she said. She wouldn't confirm the number of cuts, citing agency policy. -- Kate MacArthur
