Oil giants' merger has agencies uncertain

Exxon Corp. and Mobil Corp. confirmed late last week they are contemplating a merger, but would not release additional information. The deal would be a more than $60 billion buyout for Mobil. There was no indication of how a merger might affect the two companies' advertising strategies and agencies. Exxon is handled by McCann-Erickson Worldwide, Houston; Bright Sun Consulting, New York, does Exxon project work. Mobil is handled by DDB Needham Worldwide, Arnold Communications, Ornelas & Associates and Burrell Communications Group.
