SINGAPORE--Media buying specialist Optimum Media Direction has opened its doors in Singapore, Shanghai and Taiwan, its first new offices in Asia since a regional center was launched in Hong Kong early last year.

In each country, OMD combines the media departments of fellow Omnicom agencies DDB, BBDO, and TBWA, but it will also seek new business, according to OMD Asia Pacific CEO Mike Cooper in Hong Kong.

The Singapore OMD office will also be the network's headquarters for Southeast Asia under the leadership of Managing Director Kate Stephenson, who came to OMD from Carat Asia Pacific in Hong Kong. OMD Singapore has 35 staff and its major clients include Compaq, Federal Express, Nissan, Caltex, Sony, OralB, Reemtsma, Pizza Hut and mobile phone service provider M1.

The Shanghai office is run by Managing Director Gary Sin, who joined OMD from BBDO, and that office's client list includes Bayer, Compaq, Coty Lancaster, Anheuser Busch, Henkel, LG Group and Reemtsma. OMD Taiwan is headed up by Managing Director S.T. Tso; major clients are Mars, Compaq, ICI and Federal Express. OMD operations in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan are overseen by Maggie Choi, managing director for Greater China.

Mr. Cooper adds that OMD would shortly open offices in Beijing and Guangzhou, and by mid-1999 the media agency will commence operations in Japan, Thailand and Malaysia.
