Omnicom will buy Ross Roy

Omnicom Group, New York, made it official, announcing an agreement to acquire privately held Ross Roy Communications, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. The deal, said to be worth $50 million, establishes Ross Roy as a wholly owned subsidiary of Omnicom and one of 35 independent companies operating within Omnicom's Diversified Advertising Services division. Ross Roy's current management, led by Chairman-CEO Peter Mills, will remain in place. Mr. Mills will report directly to John Wren, CEO of Omnicom's DAS division.

Newsweek and Virtual Communications are launching Virtual City, which they describe as the first mass-market, service-oriented lifestyle magazine aimed at making cyberspace accessible to everyone. The premiere issue of the quarterly will be distributed on newsstands and through computer stores in September. Jonathan Sacks, president of Virtual Communications, San Francisco, will be publisher and editorial director. Selected stories will also be published as an editorial "Focus" section in Newsweek's "Business Plus" demographic edition, and will be available online.
