Online ventures hit for smoking ads

The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus said two online ventures, Stop Smoking Center and GNYPP, have failed to respond to challenges against their online advertising. NAD, which recently began monitoring online media, asked Stop Smoking Center to provide substantiation for claims including "No withdrawals," "No weight gain" and "98% success rate." GNYPP claims challenged include "Over 15 years of proven success" and "Live longer, have more energy without weight gain." NAD said if the advertisers don't respond in the next 15 business days the cases will be referred to the appropriate government agency.
