NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Viacom-owned Infinity Broadcasting Corp.'s New York talk-radio station WNEW-FM canceled the nationally syndicated Opie & Anthony show after a "Sex for Sam" contest sponsored by Boston Beer Co.'s Samuel Adams resulted in the arrest of two listeners for having sex in St. Patrick's Cathedral.

The Federal Communications Commission is investigating the radio station, citing "broadcast program material that violated the federal prohibition of indecent material," according to an Aug. 22 letter from the FCC to WNEW.

Sex in public places
The contest urged people to have sex in various public places to win a trip to the Sam Adams brewery.

Rick Delgado, producer of the radio program, referred calls to Infinity. An Infinity spokesman said only that "based on recent events, the Opie & Anthony show has been canceled and will be replaced by other programming."

Sam Adams representatives and Big Chair Productions, New York, which handles advertising for Sam Adams, did not return calls for comment.
